Non-surgical weight loss options

Endoscopic gastric balloon, medically supervised pharmacotherapy (including GLP-1–based injections where appropriate), structured nutrition and follow-up can support weight loss without traditional open surgery.

Not every patient needs—or wants—a surgical procedure. Non-surgical pathways can include intragastric balloon placement performed endoscopically, prescription weight-management medications used under medical supervision, high-protein and calorie-aware nutrition plans, behaviour coaching and regular monitoring of metabolic markers.

These methods work best as part of a programme: clear goals, follow-up visits, assessment of tolerability, and attention to muscle mass, hydration, micronutrients and sleep. Combining tools—for example balloon plus supervised nutrition, or injections plus resistance training—may be discussed when clinically appropriate.

Patient selection matters. Active substance use disorders, certain endocrine conditions, pregnancy, some gastrointestinal disorders or inability to attend follow-up may change eligibility. A specialist evaluates risks, benefits and alternatives in context.
